Pharmeceutical Power
The so called primary physician in my health care system is a person I refer to as the pill pusher. She is willing to write all of my current prescription needs once a year. I use them as needed when current prescriptions are used up. Caremark is the designated prescription service on Bud's AT&T retirement plan. I received a phone call from the telephone message person at Caremark that they would not fill my prescription for 90 tablets of Quinine. This is the one drug that I take when bound up with horrific leg and foot cramps. The FDA has determined that Generic Quinine can be deadly to one's body and pulled it off of the available drugs on the market. The Caremark person informed me that they would fill the prescription with a branded product called Qualaquin. For a higher copay in the amount of $90.00. Mind you. That's the copay, not the retail price. I learned that the branded product contains exactly the same chemicals as generic quinine.
The pill pusher will not write another prescription for quinine but will write one for Qualaquin. I requested Caremark to return my original prescription. The quinine is available online from a Canadian pharmacy, They also sell Qualaquin. It is three times more costly for the same mg but for less than a third of the product.
I'd say the pharmaceutical companies own our congress and FDA.
